Policeman for A Day (02/08)

Neria, a 6 year old cancer patient from Afula, is being treated at the Schneider Pediatric Hospital Oncology Unit. He stays with one of his parents at Ezer Mizion’s Oranit Guest Home for children with cancer during his outpatient treatments. It is too far for them to travel such a great distance every day to the hospital and back home. They are fortunate to have the comfortable accommodations that Oranit offers and its special activities and services for sick children and heir families.

Neria is a boy who is fascinated with the police. He has dreams that he wants to realize, such as to wear a police uniform and cap, to be in the company of policemen and ride in a police car.

Ezer Mizion’s Oranit staff approached Sergeant Beni Ba’adani from the Petach Tikvah Police precinct with a request to enable Neria realize his dreams and bring him joy.

The city's police commander, Chief Superintendent Alon Aryeh, graciously accepted the challenge and arranged a visit for Neria, accompanied by his excited parents and Ezer Mizion staff.

The visit started in the office of the police station commander who presented Neria with a real policeman's cap, border police beret, policeman's shirt and other gifts. The blissful Neria sat for a short while on the chair of the station commander and enjoyed the excitement of the event.

Neria was then welcomed by the commander of the Civil Guard, Superintendent Hilah Chamu, who presented him with a miniature police car, symbols and labels. The police demolition expert let Neria operate the police robot by remote control and all this was topped with a ride through the city in a real police car with its siren wailing.

Neria, a policeman for one day, ended the exciting day with a feeling of satisfaction and renewed energy.

Neria and his parents join Ezer Mizion in thanking the Petach Tikvah Police precinct who generously cooperated in this venture to make this sick child happy.
