| The annual Israel Social Worker's Conference in Tel Aviv, a two-day symposium open to social workers from across the country, is the perfect opportunity for organizations involved in the field to introduce mental health professionals to existing and planned projects. Over two thousand social workers participated in the conference, and returned to their respective positions with new insights and practical direction.
Not every organization is allotted time in the tightly packed schedule of the Conference. Ezer Mizion's Mental Health Division was chosen to be among the prestigious organizations presenting their work.
The schedule of the Mental Health Conference included a line-up of forums on different topics, with the participants signing up for the workshop of their choice, followed by a major session attended by all. Ezer Mizion's forum on "Dealing with services for a unique population" attracted an unusually large audience.
Ezer Mizion presented two major projects:
- Addressing the special needs of the mentally ill in the chareidi community: The address, coupled with a vivid audio presentation, focused on the sector's aversion to exposure, reluctance to request assistance through official conduits, and concern for preservation of the family unit when one member is struck with mental illness. The speaker demonstrated how each of these needs is met by Ezer Mizion's program, which includes trained, one-on-one mentors from the same sector, strict confidentiality, and guidance in actualizing entitlements.
- Addressing the special needs of Alzheimer's patients and their families in the chareidi community: Ezer Mizion introduced the activities of its Tziporah Fried Support Center for Alzheimer's patients and their families. The Center, founded in November 2009, serves the unique needs of the aging in this sector. The forum presented the ideological foundation of the Center - the right of every elderly person to age with dignity, in the optimum environment, with his physical and emotional needs being met. The Center connects families to the proper channels for entitled assistance and supports them practically and emotionally through the stages of their loved one's illness and growing dependency.
The impact of the forum was powerful, and put a focus on Ezer Mizion's contribution to Israel's mental health professional community. |
