| It seems disfluency is a lot more common than people think, as over 1% of the world's population suffers from this disabling condition. Ezer Mizion, together with the Dr. Fluency Clinic for Treatment of Stuttering and Disfluency Challenges, opened a practice group for PWS (People Who Stutter) that have participated in Precision Fluency Shaping therapy, to help maintain the fluency that has been achieved. In the practice group, the participants can practice real life speaking situations, including public speaking, which to PWS would be no more than a fantasy in the past.
Overcoming a disfluency problem (stuttering, stammering, cluttering etc.) is not an easy feat. Using Precision Fluency Shaping (a method developed by professor Webster back in the early seventies) one can achieve good fluency within 2-3 months of practicing for a half an hour a day with the Dr. Fluency computerized system. It seems however, that the main challenge remains maintaining that fluency over time, something that requires intensive ongoing practice. The practice group at Ezer Mizion is an essential piece in puzzle of the ongoing practice that is so critical for success.
"Dr. Fluency" is a Prime Minister prize winning software system that was developed by PWS for PWS together with the Hadassah Ein-Karem Communications Disorder Clinic, and Professor Robert Kroll of Toronto, a world authority on Precision Fluency Shaping treatment for stuttering.
The Dr. Fluency treatment program is unique in that it brings Fluency Shaping - the only proven method for improving and maintaining fluency over time - from the specialized clinics that have all the necessary equipment, to the PWS home.
