Daniel was first diagnosed with cancer two years ago. He was treated with chemotherapy and went into remission. Several weeks ago he began feeling sick again. Tests revealed that the cancer had overrun his body again in a very serious way.
Daniel has undergone further difficult chemotherapy sessions and is currently hospitalized in isolation. Doctors are saying that the only chance to save Daniel's life is a stem cell transplant. And it must be done urgently.
There are more than 480,000 active potential bone marrow donors in Ezer Mizion's Registry, but only 100 of them are from the Georgian (Gruzini) community which is Daniel's ethnic background.
No matching donor has been found for Daniel in Ezer Mizion's Registry or among the 12 million plus potential donors that are listed in Registries throughout the world.
In a special donor recruitment drive held by Ezer Mizion in Ashdod, members of the Georgian community were rallied to join the registry by giving a blood sample in the hope that the matching stem cell donor will be found and Daniel's life can be saved.
In the course of the single day drive, about 2,000 samples were collected and are being tested for compatibility. We all hope and pray that a match for Daniel will be found among the new donors and he will be able to have a lifesaving transplant soon. |
