As the sun shone brightly on the 5th Annual Golf and Tennis Classic at Old Oaks Country Club in Westchester, NY, its encouraging rays extended to the dreary hospital rooms of Jewish cancer patients whose only hope of survival is a bone marrow transplant.
In spite of the economic downturn, crowds of New York's most prestigious leaders of the world of finance joined together for the benefit of Ezer Mizion's Bone Marrow Registry.
"A child with leukemia can't wait for Obama's changes," said one participant. "It is essential that the registry be enlarged so that each request can be met in a timely manner before it's too late."
Many participants had a friend or neighbor awaiting the lifesaving transplant. As players swung their clubs aiming for that hole in one, an ambience of satisfaction pervaded the course. The hole is not the only goal. We're here to save lives!
The event was coordinated by Ezer Mizion's devoted Vice President, Victor Quinn (pictured below). Ezer Mizion is grateful to the dedicated committee members who gave unstintingly of their time to ensure the success of the event. Dr. Aaron S. Cynamon, Alex Dembitzer, Michael Goldberg, Larry Levine, Nathan Low, Manny Malekan, Mark Marmurstein, John Pollis, Tammy and Ricky Shatz and Stuart Sugarman devoted hours to creating awareness among their fellow business associates. Due to their dedicated efforts, much funding has been raised for genetic testing, thus greatly increasing the chances of a positive response to those who wait in hope and prayer for the life-saving genetic match.
Nathan Low of Sunrise Securities Corp spoke eloquently urging the guests to raise money among their family and friends. "Just ask 36 people to contribute $1000 each. I guarantee that within a short time you will receive a letter beginning with the fateful words: You have saved a life! I did it. Many of my friends did it. The reading of that letter was one of the high points of my life."
