In a recent blood donation drive organized by Ezer Mizion at its Jacob Fried Building in Bnei Brak, over three hundred units of blood were collected within a mere four hours! The desperate need for blood units, due to the tragic proliferation of urgent operations and traffic accidents led Ezer Mizion to rally its forces for this important mission. Signs posted on poster boards throughout the city as well as megaphone announcements from cruising cars brought hundreds of willing donors to the blood donation station.

Ezer Mizion holds blood donation campaigns several times a year in a number of major cities throughout the country because of the great need for these blood units. In the course of 2009, a total of 2,700 blood units were collected by Ezer Mizion in some twenty campaigns carried on in points across the country.

The project is manned by volunteers, who selflessly work out the logistics of the campaign into the wee hours of the night.

In Ezer Mizion, the pool of blood donors is used for emergencies, for childless individuals, elderly people and others who need urgent transfusions, and whose family is unable to provide the necessary blood donations for them. "Every donor who comes to us expands the pool and enables us to help more and more people," emphasizes Chanie Taub, director of blood bank activities in Ezer Mizion.

In addition, when an urgent need arises for a particular blood type for a seriously ill patient, Ezer Mizion locates the potential donors, drawing on the records of their huge donor pool. At times, the call may come at a late hour of the night, or at other busy times, but the volunteers are not deterred; they will not give up on their privilege to save a life.

More blood donation campaigns are planned for the coming month in other cities throughout the country, at the various Ezer Mizion branches.
