Building Lives with Lego (03/12)
One of the special projects at Oranit, our cancer patient guest home, is a weekly Lego workshop. At the workshop kids learn how to create with Lego blocks. This activity brings them relief through fun and creativity.

Before Pesach, generous donors sponsored the purchase of Lego brick sets for the workshops and four giant Lego brick sets that were raffled off to families that took part in a special pre-Pesach Lego workshop session.

The first prize winner was a family with five children. They won a stunning huge police station Lego bricks set. Their five year old son Yonatan has cancer. Now, over the long Pesach vacation, all the children will be kept constructively busy and happy building the huge police station that their Lego set features.

Another raffle winner is a little boy named Rotem who is in the middle of heavy cancer therapy. He did not want to miss the Lego party and raffle for anything. He asked his doctors to put treatment on hold so that he could attend. In order to accommodate this request, his medical team pre-arranged for a three hour break during his treatments on the day of the event.

Rotem left the outpatient clinic during the recess his doctors' scheduled. He joyfully returned after the party for hospitalization over the weekend and continued treatment armed with a Lego brick set that he won at the raffle, that will tide him over the difficult treatment he is about to undergo.

Another child who won the Lego raffle is Tom, a young boy with a cancerous growth in his head. The growth affects Tom's communication skills which leads to enormous frustration for him. Tom finds comfort in building with the Lego bricks and is one of the regulars at the weekly Lego workshop. He loves it and won't miss it for anything. Now he will have his own Lego brick set to take home and enjoy, thanks to kind and caring sponsors!

As one of the mothers of these very sick children put it: "The cancer has taken us apart. The Lego bricks help us build and put our lives together..."

On behalf of these families, we thank our sponsors for their caring and generosity. May you derive fulfillment and satisfaction from what you have done and may you be blessed with the resources you need and the best of health to always be on the giving end!
