Elderly Enjoy a Trip in Ezer Mizion Ambulances (07/07)

For most people in Tel Aviv, the sea is a walk - or at most, a bus ride away.  But for bedridden or wheelchair-bound patients in the Geriatric Rehabilitation Department of   Ichilov  Hospital, the sea is about as accessible as the moon!

That is until Menachem Drach, Director of Ezer Mizion's Tel Aviv branch, decided to use an Ezer Mizion ambulance to take them to visit the sea. Accompanied by geriatric nurses and social workers,  the ambulances brought the elderly patients to the Herzliyah Marina, were they enjoyed the golden sunshine, the refreshing sea breeze, and the blue expanse of sky and sea.  The day was capped with a rare visit at a nearby café.

It is difficult to describe the joy that this simple outing brought to the participants - some of whom hadn't ventured out of the Department for a year!  "Just sitting in the café made them feel that they're like everyone else," said Nurit, a social worker in the Rehabilitation Department.  "Every time they see me while I'm making my rounds, they thank me profusely - even those that suffer from memory loss - their eyes sparkling.  This is one adventure that they won't quickly forget!"
