The snow-laden hills and breathtaking sights of Mount Hermon provided the backdrop for an adventure-filled respite from painful cancer therapy for dozens of sick children. The trip, sponsored by Oranit, Ezer Mizion's Guest Home for Children with Cancer, enabled the youngsters, each of whom was accompanied by two family members, to forget the pain of chemotherapy and radiation treatment, and to enjoy two days of pampering and excitement.
The group spent the first day traveling, staying overnight at the luxurious Kinar Hotel on the shores of Lake Kinneret. Early the next morning, they proceeded to the Mount Hermon Ski Resort on Golan Heights, which rises some 2,000 meters above sea level - Israel's response to the Swiss Alps!
In an expression of caring that is characteristic of Ezer Mizion, an ambulance was dispatched to bring seven-year old Galit from her home in central Israel to join everyone. Galit had chemotherapy treatment scheduled for the first day of the trip which her doctors refused to shift so she was unable to leave with the rest of the group and missed the first day of the outing. So, Ezer Mizion brought her on day two directly to the Hermon for fun in the snow.
When a technical failure temporarily disrupted the site's chairlift, the army's Alpine Unit, which is based on the Hermon, took the children to the top of mountain in a snow cat - a special vehicle for driving in the snow. The soldiers also treated the children to rides on snow slides and snow motorcycles - some of the many adventures they enjoyed on the slopes. The tripped was capped with a delicious meal at Kibbutz Lavi Guest House.
Ezer Mizion regularly sponsors fun-filled trips and adventures for children with cancer which gives them the emotional strength to wage their battle with serious, life-threatening disease. |
