"Something Special" Crafts Fair (02/08)

As part of its ongoing effort to provide life skills for special needs children, Ezer Mizion’s Beit Chana Activity Clubs have initiated a variety of handicrafts classes.  Here, youngsters who suffer from a wide range of disabilities, including Down syndrome, emotional disturbances, ADHD, cerebral palsy, blindness, mental retardation, and autism, learn to create attractive artwork and appealing gifts items.

The Beit Chana Activity Clubs provide supervision and constructive activity for children with special needs in the afternoons, weekends, and holidays.  In addition to a warm home, the Activity Clubs provide the children with enriching activities: computers, handicrafts, jewelry-making, music, gymboree and more.  The classes are taught by top-level professionals.

The outstanding creations that the children produced in the jewelry-making and handicrafts classes led to the idea of holding a crafts fair at which the various items they produce would be sold.

The fair, featuring artwork created by the Beit Chana Activity Club special needs children, was named “Something Special.”  Minister of Social Services Yitzchak Herzog graced the event with his presence.  He noted his great admiration for Ezer Mizion’s activities and the fact that Ezer Mizion has proved that even people with limitations can, with the right help, attain impressive achievements. Ms. Esther Doministi, Executive Directive of the National Insurance Institute, was among the other dignitaries present.

The stars of the occasion, the children of the activity clubs, wandered among the audience excitedly, proudly presenting their handiwork.   The crowd was amazed by the large and high quality selection of items.  Great thought was invested in the event and its backdrop, providing a warm and happy atmosphere.

This initiative was an opportunity for visitors to discover that special children can be empowered and take pride in their abilities and talents.  Next time you wish to buy a special present, think about “Something Special”.  Because when you give “Something Special”, the children – and their families - won’t stop thanking you for giving them the opportunity to realize their potential!
